“There are decades when nothing happens, and weeks when decades happen” Vladimir Lenin
This quotation is timely in light of the current global crisis. In Covid-19, the world is facing a monster that has damaged the world’s socio-economic and political fabric and produced unseen but palpable changes. The socio-economic ramifications of Covid-19 include
- an increasing divide between the haves and have-nots
- rising unemployment, global economic catastrophe
- intellectual devastation, to name a few.
The global political machinery has been thrown into reverse as a result of these socio-economic consequences, with international relations in limbo and intergovernmental bodies becoming pawns in the hands of wealthier nations.
All is not lost, however. It may yet be possible to restore normalcy by taking quick actions to reinforce them. In this regard, global cooperation to improve the dire socio-economic and political situation is the first requisite for normalcy. The world’s leaders should meet to create a group.
